Carbon Project Management
Origination is the identification and development of projects that produce carbon credits through abatement or sequestration activities.
Carbon Planet identifies, develops and commercialises public and private sector carbon offsetting projects.
Carbon Planet currently partners with and provides strategic advice to companies seeking to generate high quality carbon credits in both the compliance and voluntary markets, with a focus on the Middle East, Asia and Oceania.
Carbon Planet's Origination Project Management team can help your business by:
- Providing advice on domestic and international carbon trading schemes and markets
- Undertaking eligibility assessments of potential origination projects
- Undertaking full feasibility assessments for eligible projects
- Developing project design documentation to facilitate project accreditation in a number of schemes and in accordance with a range of standards
- Providing advice on funding, project planning implementation, monitoring and reporting
- Registering carbon credits from existing or new eligible projects
- Brokering carbon credits from eligible projects
Project Development - International
Carbon Planet's Carbon Commerce division is a world leader in the global procurement, development (origination), creation and marketing of compliance and voluntary carbon offsets. With a focus on the Middle East, Asia and Oceania, Carbon Planet currently partners with and provides strategic advice to companies wishing to generate carbon credits through one of the various compliance or voluntary standards.
Carbon Planet has experience and expertise in the following mechanisms and standards:
- Clean Development Mechanism (CDM)The Clean Development Mechanism is a mechanism under the Kyoto Protocol through which developed countries may finance greenhouse-gas emission reduction or removal projects in developing countries, and receive credits for doing so which they may apply towards meeting mandatory limits on their own emissions.
- Joint Implementation (JI)Joint Implementation is a mechanism under the Kyoto Protocol through which a developed country can receive "emissions reduction units" when it helps to finance projects that reduce net greenhouse-gas emissions in another developed country (in practice, the recipient state is likely to be a country with an "economy in transition"). An Annex I Party must meet specific eligibility requirements to participate in joint implementation.
- Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS) The Voluntary Carbon Standard is a quality standard for carbon credits based on the Clean development mechanism.
- Gold StandardThe Gold Standard is a Swiss based non-profit foundation that supported by a group of 51 NGO's - charitable organisations that work in the Clean Development (CDM), Joint Implementation (JI) and voluntary offset markets to provide a high quality premium carbon credits. It is a non-profit foundation under Swiss law and is funded by public and private donations. VERs VER (Verified Emissions Reduction) is a unit of GHG emission reductions that has been verified by an independent auditor - but has not yet undergone the procedures or met the requirements for verification, certification and issuance of CERs (in the case of the CDM) or ERUs (in the case of JI) under the Kyoto Protocol. Buyers of VERs assume all carbon-specific policy and regulatory risks (i.e. the risk that the VERs are not ultimately registered as CERs or ERUs). Buyers therefore tend to pay a discounted price for VERs, which takes the inherent regulatory risks into account.
With a team of highly qualified scientists, Carbon Planet develops a wide range of carbon abatement projects across the industrial and forestry sectors including:
- Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Uses (AFOLU)
- Afforestation, Reforestation, and Revegetation (ARR)
- Improved Forest Management (IFM)
- Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD)
- Agricultural Land Management (ALM)
- Wetland and Peatland Management
Industrial sector carbon management projects, including:
- Landfill gas capture
- Coal mine methane destruction
- Biomass (anaerobic digestion of animal and agricultural waste)
- Fuel switching
- N2O abatement
- Renewable Energy (wind, solar, etc)
Types of services include:
- Eligibility and feasibility assessments of potential projects
- Project design
- Policy and market advisory services
Carbon Planet adheres to policies that establish a commitment to environment and social objectives, including the rights of indigenous peoples with respect to the use of their traditional knowledge.
Project Feasibility and Eligibility Assessment
Before embarking on a carbon origination project it is important to assess the feasibility of the project, and it's eligibility for certification under relevant schemes.
Carbon Planet conducts eligibility assessments that cover:
- the nature of the project and boundary,
- the risk analysis associated with the project implementation,
- an assessment of additionality including regulatory and compliance assessment;
- investment analysis and barrier analysis
Feasibility assessments include:
- Financial viability, including major financial indicators such as NPV, ROI, IRR
- Identification of current and future relevant GHGs
- Appropriate measurement and validation methodology
