Guiding Principles on Rights of Indigenous Peoples
Carbon Planet values our relationship with Indigenous Peoples both in Australia and internationally. The expected social benefit by helping indigenous landowners achieve a sustainable livelihood and protect their native forests is a key element in Carbon Planet's REDD projects and one that we are proud to participate in.
Carbon Planet, in consultation and cooperation with Indigenous Peoples, undertake that we will endeavour to adhere with the principles outlined in the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (reproduced in amended form relevant to Carbon Planet below).
Carbon Planet will ensure that we obtain the informed consent of affected Indigenous Peoples for the project-related activities identified in paragraphs 31-37, given the specific vulnerability of Indigenous Peoples to the adverse impacts of such projects.
