Apple Announces Complete LCA based Carbon Footprint Report
It’s no secret that I have been and probably always will be an Apple ‘fan boy’, ever since I laid my hands on my first Apple ][ in 1980. Carbon Planet overwhelmingly uses Apple hardware, including all sorts of Macs, iPhones and run’s Apple’s OS X on most of this hardware. It’s not just about the design, the ease of use and the wonderful integration of all the kit either, it’s about cost and energy savings. The facts are plain. Apple’s hardware, when you compare apples with apples so to speak, is cheaper to run and greener overall than any other supplier. Today a contact in at Apple pointed me at Apple and the Environment, launched a few hours ago, that shows the details of Apple’s analysis of the environmental footprint of the complete lifecycle of their operations, from minerals extraction, through manufacturing, transport, retail, use and recycling.
Apple is to be commended for its efforts, and now I wonder how, and if it intend to offset the 10 million tonnes of CO2e emissions they, and their customers cause every year. Carbon Planet is here to help you Steve. — DS
