Carbon Planet inks deal with NEC

I believe in peace in our time. Naive perhaps but I really believe that the coming years will see the shunning of the extremism that has polluted many of the great faiths. I believe that the recent hostilities in the Middle East will simmer down in the coming years as prosperity comes to some of the most shattered areas of our planet. And Carbon Trading plays a massive part in this process. Carbon Planet has been active in the Middle East for some time, forging relationships and structuring deals that benefit not just the ruling elite but local firms and local communities. Prosperity, while no guarantee of peace, is a necessary pre-condition I feel. Equitable distribution of wealth is critical for lasting social cohesion. And social cohesion is vital if environmental issues are to be taken seriously.

Yesterday Carbon Planet signed a deal with Jordan’s New Energy Company (NEC) to identify, develop and commercialise public and private sector projects in Jordan and the region which generate large quantities of carbon credits.

Under the agreement, signed at the Australian embassy in Amman, Carbon Planet will act as advisers, marketers and facilitators for the Jordanian company.

According to NEC General Manager Ziad Ayoub, the company’s services will include consulting, planning, implantation, registration and carbon trading to help asset owners in the region benefit from carbon emission reduction schemes.

Carbon Planet’s engagement model is always to leave ownership of any carbon credits in the hands of the original asset owners. This sets us apart from many carbon originators who want to own and bank any resulting credits. Our strategy insulates us against the rise and fall of carbon prices and means that local project developers get a much better deal; meaning local people, local communities get a much better deal. And that’s, in my opinion, the key to lasting peace, prosperity and genuine emissions reduction. — DS
