Business leaders say ‘Climate policy not up to scratch’
In the UK The Guardian is reporting “UK climate policy not up to scratch, warns CBI“.
Business leaders have delivered a surprise attack on the government’s environmental policy, arguing that ministers are not doing enough to cut global warming emissions or make sure the UK does not run out of power.
The CBI says billions of pounds of necessary investment will move to the US and China unless the government takes “urgent action”.
It comes amid widespread disappointment that the G20 heads of state failed to come up with any real push on green issues as part of a $1.1tn (£743bn) financial aid package for the global economy.
I’ll admit right now I had no idea what the acronym CBI actually stood for and so Googled it to discover it’s the Confederation of British Industry, the premier lobbying organisation for UK business.
Interesting they have a whole part of their wesbite devoted to the topic of climate change and the corporate response to this challenge.
And they are right. Many business groups in the UK, the USA and Australia are demanding the governments of the world do more. Richard Lambert, head of the CBI has written an interesting, and detailed, commentary on this massive market failure we call climate change. Governments take heed, the business community is stealing your high moral ground. — DS
