Half of Australia supports Carbon Trading, the other half has no idea what it is
It’s interesting to read two papers side-by-side. Melbourne’s The Age today is reporting Aussies back carbon trading plan: poll, whereas over in Melbourne’s The Herald Sun they are reporting Australians in the dark on carbon trade plans by Government. Can they both be right? From the Herald:
According to a new poll, 17 per cent of the population conceded that they had “never heard” of an emissions trading scheme.
And 93 per cent admit to knowing either nothing or little about the proposed changes to the economy, which the Rudd Government wants to use to cut Australia’s carbon pollution.
Despite the public ignorance, 72 per cent of those surveyed said they supported a carbon reduction scheme, while 78 per cent wanted transport and petrol to be included.
The Age meanwhile claims:
The poll found 61 per cent of Australians supported an emissions trading scheme and 56 per cent said they would be prepared to pay more for energy to slow global warming.
What are we to think about this? Maybe a Venn Diagram would help here.

Perhaps not. — DS
