Carbon Planet’s latest website overhaul.
Carbon Planet’s website has just undergone a total overhaul, and despite the fact that it looks very similar, the changes are deep, and profound. For a start you can finally actually elect to save all of your details such that when you come back to buy another flight offset, or whatever, you don’t need to enter all of your data again. This has been the number one request from our regular customers and I am sorry it’s taken so long to deliver this feature. From now on you are able to create a Carbon Planet ID and a password and use those details to log in, check your transaction history and enjoy a much more personalised view of the site.
More than a new web, it’s a whole new platform
We’ve been working hard for the last 6 months or so migrating our old web onto an entirely new technology platform. All that text you see now is generated via a sophisticated content management system now, rather than hard-coded in static HTML pages. This means our expanded marketing team, and others in the company, can change text, edit photos, and alter the structure of the website without having to bother the technical team. This frees them up to work on improving the internal systems and calculators our carbon audit teams use to work out our clients’ carbon footprints.
Enhanced flight calculator
The flight emissions calculator we launched 3 months ago has been overhauled, more cities added, and its interface polished. We believe it’s the best, most accurate flight emissions calculator on the market today. That said it’s still in public beta and we are working on further enhacments. Improved shopping cart interface
The way you used to buy things from Carbon Planet was less than ideal. Until now the back-end systems for handling your purchases had not been significantly updated since we launched our first site in 2005. But all things come to those who wait and I am proud to announce that we’ve completely overhauled the shopping system. As I mentioned above you can now register your details and use your Carbon Planet ID to save you having to enter your details over and over. But that’s just the beginning. Visually the whole shopping interface has changed and it looks great! The checkout process has been refined and now you’ll need to create a Carbon Planet ID to check-out. Don’t worry this is a painless process. As a security measure, once you have logged out you’ll need to confirm your registration with the site using a link in an email we send you before you can log back in again. This makes it convenient for people who just want to pop in a buy something while making the system more secure for repeat customers. Carbon Planet places the security of your personal data at the top of its priority list.
Give a gift they can’t wrap
A brilliant, and oft-requested feature of the new site is the ability to nominate items in your order as gifts. You can even specify multiple recipients in a single order so buying environmentally sensitive Christmas gifts for the whole family has never been easier. Simply click the ’send as gift’ button against the item in the shopping cart and enter the recipient’s details.
