IT ignoring real green issues
Computerworld is reporting IT ignoring real green issues.
Three quarters of IT managers are unaware of the impact that technology has on their overall carbon footprint, according to new research conducted for independent IT consultancy, the DMW Group.
IT is responsible for up to 40 percent of a typical large U.K. enterprise’s carbon footprint. But 71 percent of businesses are largely ignoring an area right under their noses.
The data center, says DMW, is highly likely to make the most significant contribution to reducing their carbon footprint.
The DMW Group’s report ‘The Green Data Centre‘ makes for an interesting read. Carbon Planet is committed to using low energy computing solutions, and to replacing high emissions behaviours such as flights with technology such as video conferencing. Technology can indeed be both a blessing and a curse. — DS
