Why don’t you all ‘Flick Off’?
CBC News is reporting on complaints of alleged sauciness, saying Critics want Ontario to ‘Flick Off’ campaign.
Opposition parties are blasting the Ontario government for supporting a campaign aimed at getting young people to cut energy use and suggestively titled “Flick Off.”
Critics don’t like the campaign’s play on words. The campaign’s website uses such phrases as “Go flick yourself,” and “Are we flicked?”
On the homepage, a call to action says: “We need you to FLICK OFF, and tell everyone you know to FLICK OFF. The more you do it, the cooler it gets. The planet, that is.”
Hooray for rude words bringing attention to a genuine problem. Too many people leave their devices plugged in and on. In some countries there are not even any switches with their wall sockets, making flicking-off even harder to do. Some TVs don’t even have an off switch these days. I applaud the ‘Flick Off‘ campaign. — DS
