Five minutes break
L’alliance pour la planète in France is calling for everyone to give the Earth a much needed rest for five minutes tonight (European time) between 19.55 and 20.00hrs CET (countdown) by turning your power off briefly. This is to commemorate the presentation of “Climate Change 2007″, the IPCC’s latest assessment report on the global present state of knowledge of climate change.
That’s in about six and a half hours from now (now being the time I posted this) and I urge you to support this initiative. Much as buying carbon credits sends what economist like to call ‘price signals’ to the market, stimulating further projects that generate more carbon credits; co-ordinated, widespread shutting down of power for a few minutes sends powerful signals that we, the people, have had enough of slack governments, lying businesses, corrupt pseudo-scientists, lobbyists and other shills. In fact, send a proper signal and leave the power off for the whole night and get some well earned sleep. — DS
