Some downtime

Carbon Footprints is suffering a lack of updates right now for a couple of reasons I thought I should articulate. Firstup while in Sydney last week the home of our loyal system administrator, Jesse, was broken into and the thieves stole my Powerbook and iPod, as well as Jesse’s powerbook and also his wife’s Powerbook. Everything was insured, backed up and secured so there’s not much actual loss but it’s taken quite a bit of time out of our busy days and we’ve had to go get new laptops. I now have a delightful new 17″ MacBook Pro. It’s sweet! The second reason for the lack of updates is that I’ve been incredibly busy. Carbon Planet is going through a massive growth spurt right now, with new customers coming from all directions. We’ve bolstered our scientific team, added our first proper sales person, and am now in the process of setting up a sales office in Sydney. We’ve just engaged a PR company, Verve Communications who will be helping us get our message out to the masses in Australia via both traditional and new media.

Vivienne, our fantastic Marketing Strategist, and I are off to the UK on Wednesday for a series of interesting meetings. We’ll be in London for a few days, then are heading up to Sheffield for the Sheffield International Documentary Festival; the world’s first CO2free documentary festival. Carbon Planet has been working behind the scenes with SIDF to analyse their emissions and provide carbon offsets. We’ll be staffing a stall there so come and visit if you are in the area and into doccos.

There’s been no shortage of climate change news in the press lately; with almost a third of the world in drought now, even the most recalcitrant of governments are starting to wake up and take notice. I’ll be blogging more on this soon. — DS
