Reuters are reporting Clinton says must “get off our butts” to stop warming.
Former President Bill Clinton said on Saturday global warming is a greater threat to the future than terrorism and that the United States and other countries must “get off our butts” and do something about it.
“Climate change is more remote than terror but a more profound threat to the future of the children and the grandchildren and the great-grandchildren I hope all of you have,” Clinton said.
“It’s the only thing we face today that has the power to remove the preconditions of civilized society,” he said.
“I am not one of those who is pessimistic about the future of the world, assuming we get off our butts and do something about climate change in a timely fashion.”
It’s a problem that affects all of us, and caused by all of us in what seems like an almost direct ratio to the amount of household rubbish we generate. Cut your energy use. Standby can use as much power as on in some devices, especially TVs. Buy physical goods locally even if it seems to cost more; in the long run it costs so much less. Offset any remaining CO2 emissions with carbon credits. You don’t need to be an idealist to live a greener life. Eat a little less meat and you have a beneficial impact on the planet. Buying locally is a great planet saver and ensures a vibrant local economy. Carbon credits are a way of paying experts to remove CO2 from the air. — DS
