Quiet Time
Hi all. It’s been very quiet on the Carbon Footprints blog, the reason being I’ve been off getting married and enjoying a marvellous 5 week honeymoon in places where the last thing in the world I’ve wanted to do was read the news. I asked Vivienne at Carbon Planet to audit my wedding and honeymoon for CO2 emissions and that was a very interesting process. Who would have thought our wedding rings would amount to close to 2 tonnes of CO2? The grand total for the whole schebang came to 50 tonnes of CO2, including car hires, many flights, and even little things like the food for the wedding dinner. The flights of course were the major emitter.
I met so many people on the honeymoon who were fearful that their love of travel was so clearly at odds with their otherwise ‘green lives’. Of course I explained how carbon credits work to fund projects that actually reduce the CO2 in the atmosphere. Each carbon credit represents a real tonne of CO2 either removed from, or never emitted to the air.
I’ve only just returned and am back on-line and so you can expect to see more blog entries again starting next week. Starting in August I will be working for Carbon Planet full time. More news soon. — DS
