A lot of wind.

It’s all wind wind wind today. First up: First and biggest wind farm for South Australia

South Australia’s first ever wind farm is being constructed at Starfish Hill by Danish company NEG Micon for the electricity corporation Tarong Energy.

The 35.5MW Starfish Hill wind farm plant will comprise of 23 wind turbines and will be the biggest wind farm in Australia.

Tarong Energy, a Queensland Government owned electricity generation corporation, are investing $65 million into the project, which will be located north of Cape Jervis on the Fleurieu Peninsula, South Australia.

Starfish Hill will provide enough renewable energy for 18,000 South Australian households. It will reduce Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions by up to 2.1 million tonnes of carbon dioxide during its 25-year life span.

Meanwhile, according to CNN, Winds of change stir energy market

Energy company AGL will spend Aust. $236 million ($177 million) to build Australia’s largest wind farm.

The site, at Hallett 220 kilometers (137 miles) north of the South Australian state capital Adelaide, will generate 95MW — enough electricity to power more than 50,000 homes.

AGL managing director Greg Martin said Tuesday that Hallett was an ideal place for a wind farm. It had one of the largest wind resources on the Australian mainland and was close to a high voltage power line.

And then there’s this from the Indian Infoline: Suzlon wins Australian contract

Suzlon has announced its forays into the Australian market with a contract to design, procure, construct and commission a wind farm consisting of 45 units of the S88-2.1 MW wind turbine by Suzlon Energy Australia Pty. Ltd. (SEA), of Melbourne, a subsidiary of Suzlon Energy A/S of Aarhus, Denmark.

The Company has received a notice to proceed under its contract with AGL (Australian Gas Light Company), for 95 megawatts of wind turbine capacity to be installed in rural South Australia, and the wind farm to become operational during 2007.
