Emissions deal concluded

Saw this in today’s South African Sunday Times: Emissions deal concluded.

Carbon Solutions Africa (Carbon SA) says it has concluded an agreement with an unnamed European company, which will see it buy and trade 5-million tons of certified emissions reductions until the end of 2012.

Carbon SA is a joint venture between Cape Town-based CDM Africa Climate Solutions and Johannesburg-based BioTherm Energy.

It buys carbon credits on behalf of local project developers, usually companies that emit excessive carbon into the air in the course of their operations.

By developing carbon credits projects, local developers stand a chance to earn money in carbon trade. The energy emissions reductions spot price in the European Union is about €20.
